What are probiotics and how do they work?
Probiotics are microorganisms, such as bacteria or yeast, that are beneficial to our body, especially for our gut health. Although bacteria often have a bad reputation, some are very good for our well-being. Probiotics help balance the gut flora, which is the mix of good and bad bacteria that live in our intestines.
When we take probiotics, we introduce more of those "good" bacteria into our system, helping them grow and maintain balance. This improves digestion, enhances nutrient absorption, and helps reduce discomforts like bloating or cramps. In summary, probiotics act as little "guardians" that ensure your gut functions properly and remains balanced.
What is the purpose of taking probiotics?
Taking probiotics offers several benefits, especially for digestive health. Here are some of the most important ones:
- Improves digestion: Probiotics help your body process food more efficiently, which can reduce problems like indigestion, bloating, or gas
- Balances gut flora: They maintain a good balance between good and bad bacteria in your gut, which is crucial for healthy digestion.
- Reduces stomach discomfort: They help reduce issues like constipation, diarrhea, or cramps.
What is the best way to take probiotics?
Taking probiotics is quite simple, and there are different ways to do it depending on your preference. Here are some common options:
- Capsule or tablet supplements: This is one of the most common methods. Just follow the instructions on the packaging or your doctor's advice to determine the correct dosage. They are usually taken with water, preferably before a meal.
- Probiotic foods: Probiotics are often found in fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, or miso. Just make sure that these foods contain live active cultures, as that's where the probiotics come from.
- Probiotic bars or drinks: You can also find probiotics in more practical formats like energy bars or functional drinks, which you can take anywhere. These are perfect for those with a busy lifestyle.
What does it mean for a probiotic to be alive?
When we say that a probiotic is "alive," we mean that the bacteria or yeast it contains are still active and able to exert their benefits in your body. It is crucial that probiotics maintain their viability until they reach your gut, where they can do their work, helping balance gut flora and improving digestion. For a probiotic to remain "alive," it must be stored and handled properly, as factors like heat or humidity can kill them.
That’s why it has been a challenge for us to ensure that the probiotics in our bars remain active until the moment you enjoy them.

Can children take probiotics?
Yes, children can also take probiotics, and in fact, they can benefit greatly from them. Probiotics can help improve digestion, prevent stomach issues like diarrhea or constipation, and strengthen their immune system, which is especially helpful when they are exposed to viruses circulating in educational settings. Probiotics can also help restore gut balance after illnesses or antibiotic treatments, aiding faster recovery.
We always recommend that in case of doubt, consult with a health specialist.
