What are isotonic drinks?
Did you know that after intense physical exercise we can lose up to 1.5 liters due to sweat and dehydration?
In many cases, water consumption is insufficient, which is why many athletes incorporate carbohydrate and electrolyte-based drinks or gels into their routines.
Isotonic drinks are beverages that are characterized by having the same amount of salts and sugars as blood, allowing the body to absorb them easily. They are useful for replenishing the minerals and fluids lost through sweating and can help improve performance during intense physical activities.
What is the difference between an isotonic drink and a hypotonic drink?
An isotonic drink has a concentration of salts and electrolytes similar to that of your body's fluids, making it ideal for maintaining hydration during long activities. In contrast, a hypotonic drink has fewer salts and is recommended for quick rehydration before exercise.
What is the difference between the carbohydrates in isotonic drinks and those in energy gels?
The carbohydrates in isotonic drinks are gentler and mix with water to provide sustained energy and maintain hydration, while energy gels are designed to provide quick energy in situations of greater need.
How does this isotonic help prevent muscle cramps?
Electrolytes such as sodium and magnesium, present in this isotonic drink, help maintain fluid balance and prevent dehydration, which are key factors in preventing muscle cramps during long physical activities.
Can I use this isotonic for short-duration activities?
For activities lasting less than 30 minutes, it is not necessary to consume isotonic drinks, as your body can maintain hydration with water. However, for longer workouts or in extreme heat conditions, the isotonic drink can be a useful option.
When should I consume this lemon-flavored isotonic?
- Before exercise: To ensure adequate hydration levels.
- During training: Take small sips every 15-20 minutes to maintain fluid balance.
- After training: Helps to quickly replenish lost fluids and minerals.
How to prepare your isotonic drink?
Simply mix 40 g of isotonic powder in 500 ml of water and shake well.
